For a 77-year-old cooking oil brand, the real competition isn't on the shelf — it's in the kitchen memories Malaysian families already carry with them. Most households in Malaysia have grown up with the signature peanut aroma of Knife, passed down across generations the same way recipes are. The creative challenge for Knife Cooking Oil wasn't to convince a new audience to try the product. It was to honour the emotional truth millions of Malaysians already feel: with Knife Oil, there's the taste of mum.
Knife Cooking Oil "Always By Your Side" heritage FMCG campaign key visual by Laugh Contagious Communications, creative agency in Kuala Lumpur

Knife Cooking Oil Always By Your Side — a bilingual Mandarin-English campaign anchored on the emotional truth that Malaysian families have grown up with Knife's signature peanut aroma since 1948.

The campaign anchors on a deeply local insight rendered in deeply local language. The bilingual idea — 油您在身边 / Always by your side — plays on the near-identical sound of 油 (oil) and 有 (have/with) in Mandarin, turning a functional product claim into a tender heritage promise that only works in this specific cultural register. The headline payoff — 有刀标油,就有妈妈的味道 (with Knife Oil, there's the taste of mum) — closes the emotional loop. Built across key visuals, POSM, and retail communication, the campaign positions Knife not as a cooking essential, but as a household trust that's been part of three generations of Malaysian home-cooked meals.
